Position: Industrial Hygiene Technician

Full-time: Position will include both field work and office work. Approximately 70% field work and 30% office time, variable.

This position may require as much as 25% out of town travel (Idaho and neighboring states) and possibly on short notice to respond to client requirements. Generally day shift but evening, night and weekend work may be required. Long days may be required to mirror client’s work schedules.

 

The candidate will be responsible for the following job duties:

  • Conduct asbestos, lead-based paint and other hazardous material surveys,
  • Oversight/air monitoring during abatement of asbestos, lead-paint, mold remediation, and other regulated materials;
  • Industrial hygiene surveys
  • Construction safety monitoring
  • Respirator quantitative fit testing
  • Providing training courses for asbestos and lead-based paint with appropriate experience and training
  • Detailed documentation of daily project activities, including preparation of samples for analyses
  • Report writing based on established templates and formatting with accuracy, efficiency and proper spelling/grammar.
  • Maintenance and calibration of field equipment

Basic Qualifications:

  • Entry level to experienced – pay depends on education and experience
  • Studies in science-related fields or construction management are a plus.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, under the supervision of a senior consultant
  • Willingness to travel regionally for short periods of time
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Excellent customer/client relations skills
  • Excellent reading, writing, computer/Windows/Microsoft Office
  • Strong writing skills are required, including the ability to efficiently and accurately produce technical reports from standardized templates.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to interact with various contractors to maintain safe working environments
  • Ability to complete routine responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work with various types of industrial hygiene equipment including performing calibration adjustments, deploying and using equipment in the field, downloading and formatting data for interpretation.
  • Ability to see and manipulate small objects (set screws on equipment)
  • Be able to wear personal protective equipment including an air purifying respirator, safety glasses, hard-toed boots and Tyvek® coveralls, or other protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.
  • Must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time, climb ladders and stairs, enter crawl spaces underneath buildings, attics or other confined spaces.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds.
  • Current valid driver’s license and clean driving record;
  • No criminal felony record. Must be able to pass security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

Training, or course work in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA-related), Engineering, Chemistry, Physics Geology or Biology a plus. Relevant professional experience and certifications will be considered.
Current certifications to include: AHERA Contractor/Supervisor, AHERA Inspector, EPA Lead-based paint Inspector/Risk assessor, OSHA 30 Hour Construction Industry, OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER, etc.
Working knowledge of buildings, construction, including conducting workplace health and safety investigations for physical and chemical hazards.
